Strolz ski & snowboard foam boots

Today's Strolz ski boots integrate three generations of traditional craftsmanship and technical innovation.

When Ampros Strolz opened a shoemaking shop in Lech, Austria in 1921 and produced his first ski boots he could not have imagined too many accomplishments that would be realized over nearly eight decades. From that simple beginning he established a standard which is now synonymous with the name Strolz : Quality through Innovation.Ambros' son Martin continued what his father had begun but not before performing with outstanding success as a member of the Austrian National Alpine Ski Team. His many achievements included a silver medal in the downhill at the F.I.S. championships in Aare, Sweden in 1954.

This profile success Martin Strolz had as a racer helped convince the international ski-elite of the quality of Strolz boots. For 25 years Strolz supplied both the Austrian national team and the teams of many other countries with competition boots. When he finished his racing career Martin fulfilled the stringent Austria study standards for certification as a Master in Orthopaedic Shoemaking and then assumed responsibility for Strolz ski boot production. The Strolz combination of traditional craftsmanship, innovation, orthopaedic excellence and intimate ski racing experience produced a ski boot renowned throughout the world. When toward the end of the sixties, the first moulded plastic boots came on the market, few of the producers of traditional leather ski boots were able to make the transition to the new technology and material. Strolz however, understood the potential and accepted the challenge, introducing in 1969, their first plastic-shell boot. Ski boot technology kept developing very rapidly and it was not long before a new fitting system appeared - the "Foam-Fit System". This system was adopted worldwide but was truly perfected in its application by Strolz. As his father and grandfather before him, Hannes Strolz studied and mastered the orthopaedic shoemaking skills and then undertook a four year long university-level design curriculum, in Munich. After completing his formal studies, Hannes entered the family business and, since 1990, has functioned as general manager and chief designer.

Under his leadership, Strolz developed a dual function ski and snowboard boot which was recently introduced.

The Strolz foamable liner provides an exact match to the unique shape of each foot. Many ski and snowboard professionals use liners from Strolz because they don't have to sacrifice performance for comfort. Strolz is the only ski boot manufacturer using liners of leather - leather which breaths and is more supple and durable than man-made substitutes.Strolz places special emphasis on the selection of the dealers; on their experience and reputation as boot fitters. Then Strolz strive to provide them with all the help and information that they need to insure the proper fitting of the boots.

How it works.

First the foot is measured and its anatomy thoroughly analyzed. After this, the correct shell and liner are chosen and the foot is carefully padded with close attention to potential "hot spots".

...

By padding foot protrusions the technician prevents foam from filling the space occupied by the pad, creating recesses in the foamed liner which shelter the protrusions - "hot spots" - from excess pressure.

The foaming procedure, which takes approximately one-half hour, can be varied by the experienced technician to produce anything from a very tightly packed racer's fit to the more relaxed fit that a purely recreational skier might desire.

The skier leaves the shop with new boots in hand and can use them after a foam set-up time of approximately 12 hours.
